Suffolk's extensive reedbeds, marshes, and coastal wetlands provide outstanding habitat for herons and egrets, making the county one of the best places in Britain to observe these elegant waterbirds. Six species have been recorded here, including the elusive Eurasian Bittern, which breeds in the famous reedbeds of Minsmere and other RSPB reserves. Scarcer visitors such as the Purple Heron and the increasingly frequent Great White Egret add excitement for birdwatchers throughout the year.
